About Lu Xiao-Wei
Lu is an award-winning Taiwanese director based in London. Her work embodies unique storytelling with a focus on identity and social issues combined with striking visuals, drawing inspiration from East Asian and British culture.
Her short films have won the Best Sound Award at the New York City Independent Film Festival and screened at BAFTA-qualifying London Short Film Festival and Aesthetica Film Festival, as well as Chicago’s Blow-Up Arthouse Film Festival, Berlin Fashion Film Festival Miami Fashion Film Festival and Manchester Film Festival.
Lu has directed high-concept and beautifully choreographed videos, connecting powerful women performances to strong art direction. Her music video for London based multidisciplinary artist Glor1a has been featured on Nowness Picks and Boiler Room 4:3. More recently, her short documentary The Filial Daughter was a unique portrait about the women who work as professional mourners in Taiwan. It’s an official selection of the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival 2020 and featured on i-D Magazine.
Having directed branded content for i-D, Adidas, Nike, Dyson and Audible, Lu’s work has been featured on platforms such as NOWNESS, Hunger TV, The FADER, gal-dem, Girls In Film and more.
