Sonia Malfa

Puerto-Rican female filmmaker, Sonia Malfa, has shaped an identity that is intrinsically woven into the films she makes. When starting a project, Sonia strives to find her own personal connection with the subject matter, resulting in deeply resonant work. Sonia consciously focusses on people of colour and women’s stories, those who are too often overlooked and lacking in media representation. She’s inspired by their strength, spirit and courage, giving her subjects a platform that is softly powerful and beautifully authentic. Her work is cinematically perceptive, using colour and light to express her subject’s emotional state.
